Jekyll and Hyde is a song that brings up the idea of mentality vs emotion. When writing the lyrics, I thought of the two classic internal dialogues we listen to (the head and the hart) pulling at the seams. I had a concept where I wanted the song to sound like two different songs being messed together which ultimately led me to recording an acoustic version and a pop/punk version.
I first sent a track to my brother who said he liked the acoustic version more. So I spent a lot of time on making only an acoustic version. Though everytime I listened back to the pop/punk version I felt drawn to it. So I sent the song to some of my friends and fans who like my other styles of music. They gave me some really good direction and I began working on the pop/punk version again. I know that I have two types of fans so I've decided to release the acoustic version along with the mix version. I'm really happy with how both turned out. They sound completely different. Each has their own vocal take and mix of instruments. One feels like a coffee house sound track and the other sounds similar to a Falling in Reverse song. For the acoustic version I only released it on Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon Music.
It was difficult for me to think of a concept for the cover art
. So, I started with the app. Canva. Canva is an editing and graphic design program that gives people free photos to work with and preconstructed sizes for projects. In example, album pixel ratio for apple music and whatnot. The first image I made was pretty dark. I figured I would post it to see what people thought. As I suspected, it was not well received. Though, I was given some good feedback. I was then able to move forward with a better concept. The idea led to me shaving half my face and taking multiple awkward pictures in my undeveloped bathroom. Luckily my new phone Google Pixel Seven has some amazing features and made it look pretty professional with minimal skill and setup. As I worked on the concept, my 4-year-old Eva told me I needed more Rylei in the picture. So, I created three versions. One black and white, one with red and green like the cover of the original Novel image Jekyll and Hyde, and one with 4 Rylei's in it. After a day of voting on what my fans liked the most. The black and white version took the prize and is now the cover art for Jekyll and Hyde.
